A customer reaches your product page but cannot select a size by keyboard. Another reaches checkout but cannot tell which field failed validation. A screenshot review will miss both problems.

Review method, September 28, 2026: This is a store-testing checklist based on WCAG 2.2 and WooCommerce’s accessibility guidance. We have no measured conversion lift from fixing these issues. The sales figures previously shown here were an illustrative calculation and have been removed. AmazingPlugins publishes the plugin linked below.

Run a short audit on the purchase path

Open the homepage, a product page, cart, and checkout. Use WAVE or the axe browser extension to look for errors. Then use a keyboard to try the complete path. An automated scan cannot tell whether a customer can complete payment.

Barrier to checkWhere it often appears
Image with no useful alternativeProduct and variation galleries
Control with no accessible nameIcon-only cart, filter, or quantity buttons
Low text or control contrastSale prices, placeholder text, focus outlines
Focus that disappears or gets trappedPopups, cart drawers, sticky headers
Error that does not identify the fieldCheckout and account forms
Update that is not announcedCart count, shipping total, stock message

Start at a product page and press Tab. Use Shift+Tab to go backward and Enter or Space to activate controls. Select a variation, add it to cart, change a quantity, and attempt checkout with an empty required field. Write down the URL and the exact step where the path breaks. Retest after the theme or checkout extension changes.

The free AP Accessibility Fixer for WooCommerce offers nine targeted fixes in its 1.5.1 release, including an empty product-image alt fallback and selected focus styles. It does not measure conversion or repair every checkout control. Use the screen reader testing guide for a deeper pass and the checkout guide to investigate payment barriers.
